The Animation menu has some common settings, and a number of settings specific to certain operations, organized in tabs. For specific Audio submenu settings, see Audio Keyframe Settings.
Display Options
Channels button
Display the animation curves to control and coordinate animations.
Dope Sheet button
Display the dope sheet and edit the timing of animations.
Information button
Display channels information such as expressions.
Gear Menu
Regen button
Enable to automatically update the scene when an animation change is made.
Animation Gear menu
Access Animation-related commands.
- Regen: Update the image as you edit the Animation menu. Enabled by default.
- Snap Keyframes to Closest Frame: When you scale or resize a channel, its keyframes snap to the closest frame.
- Show Tangents on Selected Keyframes: Display the tangents only for the selected keyframes.
- Show Tangents Information during Manipulation: Display the tangent position as you move the handles.
- Automatic Channel Selection: The last channel edited is selected when you enter the Animation Editor menu.
- Show Curves from Selected Channels: Only display the curves for the channels you select, but does not affect the listed channels.
- Show Keyframe Indicators: Display in the Channels list the same keyframe indicators as the one displayed in numeric fields in other views: a yellow line when the positioner is on keyframe of the channel, a blue line when the channel has keyframes but the positioner is not on any one of those keyframes.
- Show Range Indicators: Show in the Curves or Dope Sheet when a segment or setup starts and ends.
- Show Edit Box: Display the Edit Box whenever you select more than one keyframe.
- Channel Selection: Quickly select channels in the list.
- Select All does the same as clicking Scene at the top of the channels list.

Channel/Keyframe Tab
X Position field
X position of the selected keyframe. With more than one keyframe selected, displays the offset.
Y Position field
Y position of the selected keyframe. With more than one keyframe selected, displays the offset.
Left Tangent field
Offset the left tangents. An offset tangent is Fixed with a solid colour handle.
Right Tangent field
Offset the right tangents of the selection. An offset tangent is Fixed with a solid colour handle.
Reverse button
Flip the selection horizontally.
Negate button
Flip the selection vertically.
Curve Functions box
Select an operation to apply to your animation.
Curve Value field
Set the value for the operation in the Curve Functions box.
Tangents box
Select the behaviour of the keyframe tangents to refine the shape of the animation curve between keyframes.
Tangent Mode | Tangent Behaviour |
---|---|
Auto | Tangents are fixed in an horizontal position to prevent the curve from over- or under-shooting keyframes. Moving a keyframe higher or lower than its neighboring keyframes alters their tangents so the curve remains as uniform as possible. The handles of tangents set to Auto are empty circles. Manually moving a keyframe's tangent voids this setting for that tangent. It will now perform as a Fixed tangent. |
Fixed | Tangents are fixed in their current position so that moving a keyframe does not alter its tangents nor those of its neighboring keyframes. The handles of tangents set manually are filled circles. |
Smooth | Legacy setting to ensure compatibility with previous versions of a setup. Tangents are not locked like when using the Auto setting: they are affected by the movement of adjacent keyframes. There are no other benefit from using this setting. |
Interpolation box
Select an interpolation type to define the shape of an animation curve between keyframes.
Extrapolation box
Select an extrapolation type to define the shape of an animation curve before the first keyframe and after the last keyframe of the curve.
Common Settings

Set the current values for the selected channels in the current frame.
Auto Key
Enable to set a keyframe automatically each time you change a value at any frame.
Insert Key button
Inserts a keyframe. Its behaviour changes depending on where the keyframe is inserted.
Absolute/Relative box
Set the Duration field to be absolute or relative to the present keyframe value.
Duration field
Displays the number of frames between keyframes. Editable.
Delete Key button
Deletes the selected keyframes or curve.
Keep button
Deletes all keyframes except the current keyframe.
Cut button
Cuts the selected keyframes or curve.
