Create Asset Groups Using Automatic Setup

Using the automatic setup to create your asset groups saves a lot of manual query building.

The attributes you can use for grouping are: material, diameter, and/or year laid (installation date).

Once your groups are set up, you can choose to further refine them by manually adding more queries (with other attributes or data types).

To set up asset groups automatically:

  1. Go to Groups and select Create New Asset Group Set.
  2. Fill in the fields.
  3. Select Automatic Setup and then click Create Set.
  4. On the next page, select the attributes you want to use to group your assets (material, diameter, and/or year laid) and then click Select. The more attributes you select, the more asset groups you will have.
  5. If you want to, you can edit the attribute values to group or exclude values. For example, you may want to group several similar materials together. To do this:
    1. Click on the edit icon .
    2. Select the values you want to edit.
    3. Click on the Action button and choose to group or exclude the selected values.
    4. Then click Save.
  6. For the numerical attributes, you can edit the ranges if you want to. To do this:
    1. Click on the edit icon .
    2. Adjust the number of ranges using the button in the top right, or adjust the range values.
    3. Then click Save.
  7. Next, click Create Groups in the top-right corner of the page.
  8. You can view the groups and you can use the three dot menu to edit the group name and description if you want. You can also switch to the Assets tab to see a list of assets and their assigned group.
Note: In the group names for groups with numerical ranges, "LE" means "Less than or Equal to" and "GT" means "Greater Than".

There is also an "Everything Else" group created, which is required to complete the configuration tree, but will contain 0 assets.

If you want to further refine your groups by adding more queries or editing the automatically created ones, you can do this on the Configuration tab by clicking the Edit Automatic Setup button. You'll need to Save and Run the configuration tree again if you make any changes. See how to add custom queries.

Note: Editing the tree manually will disable the automatic setup. If you later want to discard your manual changes and return to the automatic setup, you will be able to reset to automatic.

Remember to publish your asset group set when ready to make it available for use in analyses. To do this, go to the list of asset group sets, click the three dot menu and select Publish.
