To add links

Links are similar to hyperlinks, which can reference external assets. You can add links to a feature class or to individual features. You can link features to a URL, an image, tooltips or a map.

If you specify a link for an entire feature class, all features in that class will use the same link definition. If you specify a different link for one feature in that feature class, that feature's link will override the feature class link setting.

If you link a feature to a map (for example, using the link string from Google Maps), you must substitute the feature's latitude/longitude properties for the ones in the string. Otherwise, the differences in the coordinate systems will result in an inaccurate location.

Note: You can also include a link in a tooltip. See Create Tooltips.
  1. Do one of the following:
    • To add the link to the feature class, Click Manage glyph Model glyph model explorer in the Toolbar to display the Model Explorer and select the feature class.
    • To add the link to an individual feature, select that feature in the model.
  2. Select a feature, right-click and select Properties.
    • In the Properties Palette, click in the Link field, and then click the Browse button that appears.

Link is near the bottom of the Common section.

  3. Enter or paste the URL for the link.
  4. Click OK.

To display linked material

  1. Make sure you are not in Edit mode. Switch to a view that does not have Edit mode enabled or turn off Edit mode for the current view on the View Settings Interaction tab.

  2. Double-click the feature containing the link.

Note: To be able to open the links, select the Links option in the View Settings glyph Interaction tab. See To manage tooltips.
