Security: Unsigned file

When you run Inventor a security message about digital signatures displays.

Issue: This executable file is missing a valid Autodesk digital signature. The signature ensures that the file has not been tampered with since it was released.

Cause

There are a couple of reasons why this message is displayed:
  • Possible system compromise - the machine may have been compromised in some way by the introduction of an executable file posing as a different file. If compromised, it is possible this is a deliberate act to gain unauthorized access to data. Contact the person responsible for your company's data security and discuss the procedures to resolve this issue.
  • Source failed to sign component. The trusted file source forgot to digitally sign the file. The signature verifies originator identity and confirms the file has not been altered since the signature was applied.

Solution

Based upon the determination regarding the cause:
  • It is recommended that the system be evaluated to determine whether or not the machine has been compromised.
  • Uninstall and reinstall Autodesk Inventor. If you do not use all of the installed options, such as Revit Interoperability for Inventor, then you can choose not to reinstall it.
Note: Not installing a component limits some functionality. E.g. uninstalling or not installing Revit Interoperability for Inventor will prevent Inventor from importing or exporting Revit files.
