Create and Place Multiple Tube and Pipe Component Occurrences

Autodesk Inventor provides a series of equivalent copy tools so you can create and place multiple secondary occurrences of exclusive tube and pipe components . Tube and pipe secondary occurrences can be based on either primary occurrences or existing secondary occurrences.

Placed secondary occurrences are completely dependent on the associated primary occurrence. They can be constrained as a rigid body but cannot be edited directly. To reuse them for normal edits, use the Make Adaptive command to transition them to new adaptive primary occurrences later.

Copy & Paste

  1. In the Model browser, select one or multiple exclusive tube and pipe components or existing tube and pipe secondary occurrences and press Ctrl and C.
  2. Activate the appropriate parent environment to place secondary occurrences, such as primary runs assembly to place a pipe run secondary occurrence.
  3. Click the graphics window and press Ctrl and V.

Drag & Drop

  1. Activate the appropriate parent environment to place secondary occurrences, such as primary runs assembly to place a pipe run secondary occurrence.

  2. In the Model browser, select one or multiple exclusive tube and pipe components or existing tube and pipe secondary occurrences.

  3. Drag your cursor to an appropriate position in the graphics window.

In the graphics window, your cursor appears as .

  4. Release the mouse to place secondary occurrences.

Place Component

  1. Activate the appropriate parent environment to place secondary occurrences.
  2. Start the Place Component command using either of the following ways:
    • With the top assembly or primary runs assembly active, click Assemble tab Component panel Place .
    • With the top assembly, primary runs assembly, or pipe run active, right-click in the Model browser or graphics window and select Place Component. Ensure your cursor is selecting nothing.
  3. In the Open dialog box, select one exclusive tube and pipe component for the current active tube and pipe environment, such as a pipe run secondary occurrence if the primary runs assembly is activated.
  4. Click Open.

Pattern Component

  1. Activate the appropriate parent environment to create patterns for an exclusive tube and pipe component, for instance, activate the primary runs assembly to pattern pipe runs.

  2. Start the Pattern Component command using either of the following ways:

    • With the top assembly or primary runs assembly active, click Assemble tab Component panel Pattern .
    • With the pipe run active, select one or multiple routes and flexible hose assemblies in the Model browser, right-click and select ComponentPattern.
  3. In the Pattern Component dialog box, select one or multiple exclusive tube and pipe components and define the pattern settings.

  4. Click OK.

Note: You cannot make secondary occurrences adaptive when they are within an assembly pattern. Before making adaptive in the copy and reuse workflow, they must be independent of the pattern.

Save Copy As

  1. Activate an exclusive tube and pipe component or existing tube and pipe secondary occurrence.

  2. Click File Save AsSave Copy As to save the file to a desired location in your project work space.

  3. Optionally, if you are prompted for the conduit part file names, specify the unique file names or accept the default.

  4. Use Place Component to insert it to the appropriate tube and pipe environment.

Note: These copies of exclusive tube and pipe components differ from non-adaptive tube and pipe secondary occurrences. When they are placed into the appropriate tube and pipe environment, they remain adaptive.
