Simulation browser reference

.

In an assembly, the Simulation Browser displays the document name with unique simulation nodes beneath it. The component, part, or assembly, can have multiple simulations. Each simulation node contains the assembly and its components in a hierarchical view with nested levels of feature and attribute information (nodes). Nested under the component are the subcomponents and or feature information. Additionally, folders for Material, Constraints, Loads, Contacts, Mesh, and Results are provided.

The component node displays the assembly components based on the View Representation you specify. You can select features in the browser and apply loads and constraints to the selection. When you select a feature in the browser, the feature highlights in the model. When in an assembly, you can hide parts to access inputs.

Each simulation can have a different set of materials, parametric dimensions, loads, constraints, and corresponding sets of results. You can copy loads and constraints between simulations. When you select a Results node, a results window opens. In the window, you can view the outcome of the simulations and compare iterations.

Each node has a context menu with commands available for that context.

Browser node warnings

Indicates that analysis information is stale, or is no longer up-to-date. Alerts you to take action to update the simulation or an aspect of it, such as the model mesh or results.

At a parent node, generally indicates that at least one unsuppressed child node has a warning.

At a child node, indicates an outstanding issue, such as an insufficiently defined override material.

Browser node context menus

Besides the normal context menu entries, such as visibility, the following context menu commands are unique to the Simulation environment:

Browser nodeCommandDescription
SimulationActivateMakes the selected simulation the active simulation, and deactivates the current simulation, if there is one.
Edit Simulation PropertiesDisplays the Edit Simulation Properties dialog box, where you can modify the selected properties of the simulation.
Mesh SettingsDisplays the Mesh Settings dialog box, where you can modify the mesh settings for the current simulation.
Mesh ViewActivates the Mesh View command and overlays model geometry with a mesh as defined by the mesh settings.
Simulate...Activates the Simulate command and displays the Simulate dialog box.
Copy SimulationCopies the selected simulation and pastes it into the current document browser, making it the active simulation.
 DeleteDeletes the selected simulation.
Assembly (and Assembly as subassembly)Show ParametersDisplays a list of assembly parameters from which you can nominate parameters for analysis. Displays for Parametric Dimension simulations only.
Exclude From SimulationRemoves the selected assembly from the components being analyzed.
PartShow ParametersDisplays a list of part parameters from which you can nominate parameters for analysis.
Edit ContactsDisplays the Edit (Type) Contacts dialog box according to the selected type. You can edit contact parameters.
Exclude From SimulationRemoves the selected part from the components being analyzed.
Part FeatureShow ParametersDisplays a list of feature parameters from which you can nominate parameters for analysis.
MaterialAssign MaterialsDisplays the Assign Materials dialog box, where you make alternate material assignments for analysis purposes.
Override Material > ComponentRemove Redundant OverridesRemoves redundancies in the material overrides. Combines the components under one override material folder.
Delete MaterialsReverts the material override to the previously defined material. The component node is removed from the folder.
Promote materials to modelPerforms a CAD Edit for the iProperties of the component. Pushes the material assignment into the component, replacing the previous material.
Constraints DEdit (type) ConstraintDisplays the Edit (Type) Constraint dialog box according to the selected type. You can modify constraints at any time in the process.
Reaction ForcesDisplays the Reaction Forces dialog box, reporting those forces and moments according to the constraint type.
SuppressSuppresses the selected constraint. Suppressed constraints are not analyzed.
Copy / PasteCopies the selected constraint to the Inventor clipboard. Paste adds the constraint to another simulation within the document.
 DeleteDeletes the selected constraint.
Loads DEdit (load type)Displays the Edit (load Type) dialog box according to the selected type. You can define or modify load parameters.
SuppressSuppresses the selected load. To update the results after suppressing a load, right-click the Results node and click Simulate.
Copy / PasteCopies the selected load to the Inventor clipboard. Paste adds the load into another simulation within the same document.
 DeleteDeletes the selected load.
Contacts DAutomatic ContactsActivates the Automatic Contacts command. The component is evaluated and contact conditions established for the simulation.
Update Automatic ContactsEvaluates and solves contacts to make them current.
