Revit Categories for Inventor

What's New: 2026

Access Points

  • Assemble tab glyph Manage panel glyph Bill of Materials

Usage

Revit Category can be used anywhere you use iProperties, such as in a sketch, 3D annotations, or in the drawing environment. Because they can be used with either parts or assemblies, they can be used for either RVT or RFA exports.

For example, you can add a Revit Category column in the Bill of Materials Editor to enable assigning categories within the editor. Assign the same category to one or more selected components or assign a category to one component and then copy and paste into other components.

Revit Category in BOM

The Include Properties command enables the assignment of a Default Revit Category when preparing models for export to RVT format. When used, any exported component assigned <None> as a Revit Category iProperty inherits the selected default category. For more on this, see To Include Properties in Revit Exports.
