Set the Local Folder Locations

Learn how to set the locations of the working folder and the results folder.

Local folders provide a place for temporary files to be stored. There are two types of local folder:

  • Working folder - folder used to store working copies of version-controlled items and other temporary working files
  • Results folder - folder used to store local copies of results files. (On-premise results can be moved to the server using the results management tools. See Results Data and Results Management for more information.)

You would normally place the working folder in a smaller, faster hard drive. You would normally place the results folder on a larger, even if slower, drive.

Only one of each local folder is required, even if working with more than one database. Data for each database is stored in a sub-folder of the local folder. The sub-folder name is the Unique Database Identifier for an on-premise database and the Unique Identifier for cloud database.

Setting the local folders to be on the same machine as the application will usually provide improved performance compared with using a network location.

Note: Do not keep an on-premise database in a Local Folder. You run a risk of corrupting your data because Local Folder and Remote Root files may be saved in the same folder, and these files can potentially have identical names.

To set the local folders

  1. Choose Tools Options then select the Local Folders tab.
  2. To set the working folder, choose Working Folder from the drop-down list, or, to set the results folder, choose Results Folder.
