Synergi Conversion Notes

Learn how InfoWorks converts existing Synergi network components into an InfoWorks network and InfoWorks network objects.

Some Synergi objects are imported as more complex InfoWorks objects, and additional data will be required to completely define these InfoWorks objects.

General Notes

Note: To import Synergi data, you need at least version 4.3 of Synergi (versions 4.3 to 4.7 are supported).
Due to differences between InfoWorks WS and Synergi data models, a number of adjustments are made during the import process:
  • Synergi node and link names have a length of 32 characters. InfoWorks WS node names are restricted to 30 characters. The importer will truncate names over 30 characters in length.
  • Synergi labels are not imported.
  • Synergi scripts are not imported.
  • Synergi pump types HP and QH are not imported.
  • Synergi can include assets in the model that are marked as inactive. All elements in the Synergi model are imported into the InfoWorks network. Active elements are saved in a selection list which is included in the InfoWorks run object. Inactive elements are therefore excluded from the run by default.

Run Settings

The settings on the Schedule Hydraulic Run View are set to the following:

Run Schedule Value

Diameter

Pipe Diameter

For MN (Manning) conduits, Diameter = 4 x Hydraulic Radius.

Length

Pipe Length

For HE pipes, the equivalent length of minor losses is added to the pipe length.

Friction Type Set to:
  • CW for DW pipes and non-zero roughness.
  • DW for DW pipes with zero roughness and MN pipes.
  • HW for HW and HE pipes.
Darcy Weisbach

Set for DW pipes. For MN (Manning) conduits, the conduit is converted to a circular pipe with diameter = 4 x hydraulic diameter.

The Mannings roughness coefficient is converted to a Darcy Weisbach friction factor.

Roughness Only set if roughness in Synergi is non-zero.
Hazen Williams Set for HW pipes.

Control Depth

(control data)

If a valve profile is specified in Synergi:

Top water level – first X value in valve profile. (X valves in Synergi specify the drop from the top of the reservoir).

Elevation Node Elevation
Notes Node Description

Fixed Heads

Nodes are imported as fixed head nodes if they have a known pressure and they are not a control node for a valve or a pumping station. If the fixed head nodes have demand in Synergi then the demands are not imported because fixed head nodes in InfoWorks cannot have demand.

  • Head values set from node profile Y value + Node Elevation

Transfer Nodes

Nodes are imported as transfer nodes if they have negative demand. If the transfer node has more than one demand category only the first category will be imported.
