Utilities let you add extra effects to your scene. For example, you can use the utilities to sample light or surface property information, convert a 2D or 3D texture to bump maps, or multiply/divide or add/subtract input attributes. You can also blend colors, increase or decrease contrast, or remap scalar or color values, and so forth.
