Tasks to set up a Fiber Orientation analysis

Use the process settings to enable a fiber orientation analysis.

The setup tasks below are for fiber-filled thermoplastic materials.

Note: There are some recommendations for you to consider when setting up a fiber orientation analysis:
  • To obtain fiber length results, ensure you have selected a long-fiber composite material, and the option to Calculate fiber breakage is set to Determined by length.
  • To obtain a fiber length weighted distribution result, activate the option to Output fiber length weighted distribution and select the nodes you want included.
  • For most other results, ensure that you have selected a shrinkage model in the process settings.

When all the items in the Study Tasks pane have check marks against them, the analysis is ready to launch.

Setup task Analysis technology
Select the Molding process
Mesh the model
Check the mesh before analysis
Select an analysis sequence that includes Fill
Select a material that includes a fiber filler
Set an injection location
Set up your process settings for a fiber orientation analysis

To enable a fiber orientation analysis in the process settings:

  1. In the Process Settings Wizard dialog, select Fiber orientation analysis if fiber material.
  2. Click Next if necessary until you see the Advanced options button.

To obtain fiber length results

  1. Click Advanced options.
  2. Click Edit associated with Solver parameters.
  3. Select the Fiber Analysis tab, and confirm that Calculate fiber breakage is set to Determined by length.

To obtain a fiber length weighted distribution result

  1. Click Advanced options.
  2. Click Edit associated with Solver parameters.
  3. Select the Fiber Analysis tab.
  4. Click Fiber breakage parameters.
  5. Change Output fiber length weighted profile to Yes.
  6. Click Fiber length distribution node list, and enter the nodes that you want to include.

To select a shrinkage model

  1. Click Advanced options.
  2. Click Edit associated with the Molding material.
  3. Select the Shrinkage Properties tab and select a shrinkage model associated with your mesh type.

To select intermediate results

  1. Click Fiber Solver Parameters.
  2. Select Output intermediate fiber orientation results.
