Quickstart Cool FEM tutorial: Review Temperature, mold (averaged) result

In this task, you interpret the Temperature, mold (averaged) result.

  1. Activate only the Mold Tetras layer.

  2. Select Temperature, mold (averaged).

To view the temperature inside the mold you will employ cutting planes.

  3. Select Edit cutting plane (Results > Cutting Plane > Edit).

    1. Select Plane YZ, then click Make active.

    2. Select the To a Point tab.

    3. Enter 0 100 in the Point (x, y, z) field and click Apply.

    4. Uncheck Show Active plane and close the dialog.

    5. Click Edit cutting plane (View tab > Cutting Plane panel > Edit).

    6. Select Plane YZ, then click Flip.

    7. Select Plane ZX, then click Make active.

    8. Select the To a Point tab.

    9. Enter 0 100 in the point field and click Apply.

    Mold temperature

  4. Right click the material in the Study Tasks pane and select Details .

  5. Select the Recommended Processing tab.

The target Mold surface temperature for this material is 80 C. For an amorphous material the mold temperature should be within +/- 10 C of this target. The Mold surface temperature refers to the plastic/metal interface. The mold temperature is too cold because the maximum mold temperature is about 10C below the target temperature.
