Pivot Point Lock
When using many of the navigation bar or SteeringWheels tools to navigate around a model, there is a pivot point around which the navigation occurs.
For some tools, such as the orbit tool, you can specify a pivot point. With other tools, such as the zoom tool, the pivot point is set at the position of the cursor, and changes dynamically as you move.
In some instances, it might be preferable to lock the pivot point in place, for example to navigate precisely in a specific area of the model.
Lock and Unlock the Pivot Point
To lock and unlock the pivot point, you can either:
- Use the Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut.
- Use the Pivot Point toggle button on the Status bar.
Tip: You can use Ctrl + mouse drag, or Ctrl + Shift + middle mouse button to move a locked pivot point to a new position.
Note: If the pivot point is locked and you navigate such that the pivot point moves off screen, it is automatically unlocked and recentered. In addition, if you use a tool or option that moves the focus to a specific item, the pivot point is unlocked and redefined to the selected item or crosshair. One exception to this is when the pivot point is locked to a clash when viewing clash results. In this case the pivot point moves but remains locked.
