Holder tab (turning)

The Holder tab of the Tool dialog defines the holder portion of the tool. Toolpaths avoid contact with the Tool Holder.

To display a Tool dialog:

  • Click Home tab > Tool panel > Create Tool; or
  • From the Tools context menu, select Create Tool.

The cutting portion of the tool is yellow, the non-cutting portion green, and the tool holder pink.

This tab contains the following:

Load Tool Holder — Click to import a tool holder from a triangle model.

Clear Tool Holder — Click to delete the tool holder.

Save Tool Holder — Click to save the holder. The insert is not saved.

Insert hand — Select an option from the list to specify which side of the holder the insert is located.

  • Right — The insert is located on the right side of the holder.
  • Left — The insert is located on the left side of the holder

Holder shape — Select an option from the list to specify the shape of the holder.

  • Rectangular — Displays the dimension options for a rectangular holder.

    • Width — Enter a width for the holder.
    • Length — Enter a length for the holder.
    • Tip to back — Enter a value to specify the distance between the cutting tip of the insert to the back edge of the holder.
    • Thickness — Enter a thickness for the holder.
  • Cylindrical — Displays the dimensions options for a cylindrical holder.

    • Length — Enter a length for the feature.
    • Minimum bore size — Specify the minimum diameter hole that the tool can enter. This is measured from the bottom of the holder to the cutting tip of the insert.
    • Shaft diameter — Enter the diameter of the holder.
