Markup
Markup consists of annotations that you can superimpose on a design or drawing in the viewer. The viewer supports markup in the Vault Client and the Thin Client.
Use markup to add comments, information, and suggestions for design changes to the drawing file.
To access markup tools in the viewer:

Select Markup
in the viewer toolbar.
The markup icon indicates the number of markups associated with the file. If the file contains existing markup, the markups are listed in the Markup Browsing Panel. Select the markup to view in canvas.
Click Create new to clear the canvas and create a new markup.
Use markup tools to add text or annotations.
Note: Use the Undo and Redo buttons as needed to remove and re-insert annotations.Click Save to save the markup as data on the Vault or save a local copy as an image. See Save Markups for details.
When the markup tool is selected, you can click on the arrow icons in the action bar or toolbar to show (>) or hide (<) panels and gain more screen space.
Markup Browsing Panel
The Markup Browsing Panel displays all the markups saved as data for that file, along with details such as who created the markup and the creation date. In the Markup Browser Panel you can:
- search markups based on the markup title or the creator.
- view, rename, or delete the saved markup.
- show (>) or hide (<) the Markup Browsing Panel.
Edit Markup
Select the markup from the Markup Browsing Panel to edit the markup.
Save Markups
Markup isn't recorded in the viewer. To keep a reference copy of your markup, you can save the markup as an image on your local machine or save it as data on the Vault. All unsaved markups are discarded after confirmation.
Markup in eco
You can view markup within eco using Autodesk Viewer, make changes to the markup, and save it as data in the Vault. You can add comments to each save performed on the markup. See View Markup Files Attached to a Change Order for more information.
Has Markup Properties
The markup system properties help you identify files or versions with associated markup. You can use these properties to search and customize views with a "true" value.
- Has Markup: True/False (indicates-if-any-file-version-(including historic versions) of the file has associated markups or not)
- Has Markup Historical: True/False (indicates-if-the-selected-version-of-the-file-has-associated-markups-or-not)
Markup Tools
Freehand: Draws or highlights on the design.
Text: Adds a text annotation. You can modify the color, size, border, and fill of the text.
Callout: Draws an arrow with text annotation.
Cloud: Draws a rectangle with curly edges. Select Polycloud to draw a series of connected lines.
Shape (rectangle-by-default): Draws one of the following shapes, depending on selection (click the Shape icon to select a different shape):
- Rectangle
- Circle
- Polyline
- Line
Arrow: Draws an arrow.
Line Style: Defines the color and thickness of the selected markup.
Fill Style: Defines the color and opacity of the selected shape's interior.
