Basics: Understanding Your Controllers
Welcome to an easy guide that's all about your Meta Quest controllers and how they'll help you explore and engage within Autodesk Workshop XR.

Every controller comes with its own trigger, thumb stick, grip button, and a couple of other buttons. You can change the controller to better suit your dominant hand. Just head over to settings and make the change. All controls will then flip to match the opposite action.

Trigger
Think of the Trigger as your magic wand or select button. It’s the tool you’ll use to add an issue during a design review, and interact with elements within the space.
Thumb sticks
- Left-hand thumb stick: This is all about smooth motion. Use it to glide back and forth with ease. By default, there's a dark vignette that surrounds your field of view during Smooth Motion. If you're not a fan of the "comfort tunnel" effect, you can switch it off in Settings. We recommend keeping it on for an optimal experience, especially for longer review sessions.
- Right-hand thumb stick: This is your ticket to teleportation and rotation. To zip around the Workshop or your model, just push forward on this thumb stick and let go. It's a handy trick, especially for those who are new to the VR world. Tap left or right on the thumb stick for incremental turning.
Grab
The Grab button makes it super easy for you to grab hold of the core menu and console and move them around just the way you like within Workshop XR.
Fly Up / Fly Down
If you're looking to view your model from different angles, the Fly Up / Fly Down buttons on your right hand are your best friends. Depending on your model's size, you might want to adjust the fly up/down distance for a comfortable movement. Don't worry, it's an easy fix in Settings. Hold the buttons down for smooth flying in a continuous motion.
Clock
Here's a cool trick: flip your left hand towards you and voila, there's a clock! If you prefer a 24-hour clock, you can easily make that change in Settings.
Other Controller Elements
- Right controller: On the right controller there is a to bring up your Meta Quest menu.
- Left controller: Over on your left hand you can open/close the console. Note: if you have changed your dominant hand, these will be swapped to the other hand.
Controller Labels
At first, having the controller labels on can be a big help as you get to know your way around. But once you've reached expert level, you can switch off the labels in Settings.
Haptics
While using Workshop XR, your controller will vibrate during certain actions. If you'd rather change this, or even turn it off to save on battery life, you can. Remember, your comfort is key!
