Workflow: Performing a process simulation for additive manufacturing

After you have created an additive setup with an MPBF machine, positioned the part on the build platform, and added support structures, perform a process simulation to predict, and compensate for, displacement during the additive manufacturing process.

1. Create a Process Simulation study.

   

2. (Optional) Perform a check before solving the Process Simulation study and view the mesh.

   

3. Solve the Process Simulation study.

4. View and analyze the simulated results.

   

   Tip: A sufficiently refined mesh is needed to make sure that the simulated results are accurate. Keep resolving the additive process simulation with successively finer meshes until convergence is achieved.

5. Optional steps:

   • Create a mesh body that automatically compensates for the predicted displacement.

   • Export an STL file that automatically compensates for the predicted displacement.

   • Export an STL file of the warped part.

   • Export a color 3MF file of the warped part.
