Overview
Conflicting Software
It is important to acknowledge that challenges may arise when using Desktop Connector in conjunction with any software which is actively scanning files/folders/processes which Desktop Connector also needs access to. Security software such as Anti-virus, Endpoint Protection, Encryption software are common examples. Security software can apply a temporary system level lock on a file and block other applications from accessing the file. Since the software variables differ widely, our general guidance for troubleshooting issues focuses on configuring the software to ignore Desktop Connector files/folders/processes.
For Desktop Connector the common symptoms of conflicting software may include problems accessing projects stored in Desktop Connector, the inability to write/save files, failure to sync files, very slow or delayed file sync, failure to start required services, and failure to start Desktop Connector application.
Refer to the section below Security Software (Anti-Virus/Endpoint Protection) with Desktop Connector
Network Configurations
Desktop Connector requires access to cloud services and apis outside the firewall. If access to these services are blocked Desktop Connector may fail to perform. To ensure Desktop Connector is able to function properly, the administrator may be required to apply network configurations.

Security Software (Anti-Virus/Endpoint Protection) with Desktop Connector
To identify whether an installed software is interfering, try shutting down that software and retrying the workflow in Desktop Connector to see if it succeeds. In some extreme cases, the conflicting software may need to be uninstalled completely to validate whether it is interfering.
Please follow the general steps below to troubleshoot and learn if your software is conflicting:
- Disable the Anti-Virus Software: Start by entirely disabling your anti-virus software. You may even need to uninstall it temporarily to ensure it does not interfere with the Desktop Connector.
- Reintroduce Configurations Gradually: Once the anti-virus software is disabled or uninstalled, slowly reintroduce its configurations back into your system. This step-by-step process should help you identify what works best in your unique environment.
- General Guidance: Autodesk provides specific guidance for dealing with such conflicts. Please ensure to follow these instructions carefully: How to set up antivirus (AV) exclusions to improve stability and performance of Autodesk software.
If you learn that the software is conflicting, you can test whether excluding certain files, folders, or processes resolves the issue. For testing purposes, consider applying the following temporary exclusions to the scanning software on the machines running Desktop Connector:
Drive:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Temp\CDXUploads\*\*\
Drive:\Users\*\DC\*\*\
Drive:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connector\DesktopConnector.Applications.Tray.exe
- Location of the Addinprocess.exe process (example:
Drive:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319
) - Please also refer to the general Autodesk guidance for antivirus exclusions
Examples of software we've found to conflict with Desktop Connector
Below is a list of software we have identified that if not configured properly can cause conflicts with Desktop Connector activity. This is not a full list. These are applications we have experienced causing conflicts.
ARES Privacy Protector
Refer to ARES Privacy Protector for additional information.
Avast Antivirus
Barracuda Web Security Agent
Refer to About Barracuda Web Security Agent for additional information.
Beyond Trust Privilege Management
- Refer to Beyond Trust for additional information.
Device Guard
- Refer to Windows 10 Device Guard for additional information.
Hyper-V

Keynetix.Cloud.Launcher.Service.exe
Lavasoft or Lavasoft Web companion
NView Desktop Manager (NVIDIA)
This software will sometimes cause our Transferring files dialog to appear when nothing is being transferred. It is changing the visibility of one of our hidden windows.
- To disable, start NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager in the Windows control panel and choose Disable.
McAfee Endpoint Security*
Procore Drive
- Refer to BIM 360 Desktop Connector - Pending Actions - Not Syncing.

RevitAccelerator.exe
Only for versions before Revit 2020. Desktop Connector will be unresponsive on the initial install of Revit (after reboot issue, should not occur).
- Refer to Autodesk Desktop Connector UnResponsive after Revit Install.

RTDashService.exe
- Refer to “To open or save files in a connected drive, start Desktop Connector” appears after opening a project in Revit
- Refer to Desktop Connector v.16.X crashes at startup on Windows 10 or 11 with Error Report
SkyFonts
- (SkyFontService) This service has to be disabled to improve performance.
We do not have any additional information at this time.
Symantec Endpoint Security
Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Service (MsSense)
- Refer to Microsoft Defender Endpoint.
AutoCAD/Civil 3D Plugins
Third-party plugins and add-ins for AutoCAD and Civil 3D can interfere with the application's native file saving process. When this occurs, DWG files may become read-only after saving within the AutoCAD/Civil 3D environment. Desktop Connector detects these read-only files and automatically unlocks them in the cloud to maintain file accessibility. The root cause is the add-ins disrupting AutoCAD/Civil 3D's normal save operations.
- For detailed troubleshooting steps specific to AutoCAD/Civil 3D plugin conflicts, refer to AutoCAD Troubleshooting - DWG files become read-only after saving.
