Material Guide (Panel 5) - Material Aliases

Some family properties must include a differentiator to distinguish between the original and new family members or families. You can use the Material or Material Alias as a differentiator. To use the Material Alias, define your alias strings that represent materials.

Access:

Click Manage tab Content Center panel Editor to open the Content Center Editor dialog box. Then locate the category, family, or families to add materials and do one of the following:
  • Select a category, right-click, and click Material Guide.
  • Select families (or one family), right-click, and click Material Guide.
  • Select a family, right-click, and select Family Table. In the Family Table dialog box, select family members (rows) to add material to, right-click, and click Material Guide.

Material Name

Displays materials from the Materials to Add list on the previous panel.

Material Alias

Specifies the alias string for the material.

The material alias must be unique for each material to guarantee unique file names for all family members. Material aliases are saved in the computer registry.

Note: If you enter an alias that already is in use for another material from the Material Library, the alias is marked red in the Material Guide. Edit the alias to make it unique. If you leave the material alias blank, the Material Alias = {Material} expression is assigned to the corresponding material alias cell.
