Material Guide (Panel 2) - Material Adding Method

Specify if materials are added into the existing family (or families), or if new families are created for new materials

Access:

Click Manage tab Content Center panel Editor to open the Content Center Editor dialog box. Then locate the category, family, or families to add materials and do one of the following:

  • Select a category, right-click, and click Material Guide.
  • Select families (or one family), right-click, and click Material Guide.

Create new family for each material

Creates a new separate family for each material.

Each new family is created as Save Copy As copy of the original family and includes one new material. The original family remains unchanged.

Independent family creates independent new families. The families are treated as a user-published content.

Link to parent family creates families with link to the parent family. The link enables synchronizing the child family and the parent family. If the parent family is edited, the edits can be propagated to the linked child family by using the Update Tool.

Add materials as new family members

Creates new family members in the existing families for all added materials. This method changes the original family. Besides new rows added to the family table, the File Name column is edited for all family members to ensure a unique file names. Refresh all instanced family members in existing assemblies as the final step.

Notes:

  • Families must be read/write to add family members to them. If a family is read-only, copy the family to a read/write library by using options on the next panel of the Material Guide. All read-only families are copied into one user library.
  • For selected read/write families, materials are added to the library where the family copy resides. If the selected families reside in different libraries, all corresponding libraries are edited.
