Civil View Object Updating

Object updating lets you keep your 3ds Max Design scene synchronized with your original civil engineering model.

In addition to the basic object properties accessible from the Civil View Object Properties Panel, there are properties that are unique to objects created in Civil View. These properties vary depending on the category of object selected, but their aim is to facilitate object updating.

Imported Data

The most important application for object updating is in the use of imported data from a range of civil-design applications. The ability to retain permanent links to source data files means that visualization models in Civil View can be updated almost instantly after major design changes occur.

The Update feature appears on the following panels:

Imported Shapes and Surfaces

Both imported shapes and surfaces permanently retain knowledge about their origins in their civil-design application. As well as the original source data file path and date of import, the original feature label and parent names are also retained.

When you click Update, Civil View attempts to locate the original source data file; then after comparing dates, it searches the file for an updated version of the originating feature. If it finds an update, it loads the update into the current scene, replacing the originally imported feature. All dependent objects that rely on the geometry of the updated object are also updated automatically.

Note: Objects derived from imported DXF data also retain knowledge about their origin, although in general it is not possible to use Update on these objects.
