In Tutorial 1, we showed how to simulate the tensile loading of an open-hole coupon specimen. We started with a Moldflow model of an injection-molded plaque, then created the Abaqus model of the machined coupon. With Advanced Material Exchange we were able to map the fiber orientations to the structural model and characterize the nonlinear material behavior. Finally, we performed the structural analysis on the open-hole coupon to predict failure in the part.
In this example, we'll look at a tensile bar coupon machined from the same Modlflow plaque. We want to demonstrate how the nonlinear stress-strain data entered in Advanced Material Exchange can be replicated during the structural analysis. It is important that the material characterization scheme used by Advanced Material Exchange accurately capture the underlying material behavior.
