About Optimizing the Design of Roads

Corridor Optimization (preview) and Profile Optimization produce multiple designs that can be compared for cost and environmental impact.

You can submit multiple optimization jobs, each using a different combination of parameters, which include:

Optimization jobs are processed in the cloud and return existing ground profiles along the centerline of the road. The process detects when the profile crosses other roads and designs intersections. An algorithm detects water crossings and computes the cost of placing bridges. Earthwork costs are calculated based on the width of the road and the transition zone width defined in the road style; the wider the transition zone width, the more accurate the earthwork volume estimates.

Each optimization job returns a PDF report that lists details about the centerline profile, cross sections, and construction and earthwork costs. You can import the optimized road into your model as a proposal, and then compare various proposals to determine which is the best solution for your project.

Profile optimization consumes cloud credits. When an optimization job is submitted, the server calculates how many cloud credits are required to complete the job. The cost of a profile optimization job is determined by the length of the road being optimized.

We'll notify you by email when each optimization job is ready. You can also see the status of each job on the Job Monitor.
