The table below details the commands located within the Tools tab of the ribbon:
Environment![]() |
Activate the FEA Editor environment where the model is created (meshed) and set up for analysis. See FEA Editor Environment for details. |
Environment![]() |
Activate the Results environment where the results of the analysis are viewed. See Results Environment for details. |
Environment![]() |
Activate the Report environment. In this environment you can review the log and summary files of your analyses and create an HTML report for presentation purposes. See HTML Report Generation for details. |
Options![]() |
This is equivalent to the Options command within the Application Menu. See the Options Dialog Box page and its subtopics for more information. |
Options![]() |
Exchange Apps are created by the community of Autodesk customers. Exchange Apps can help enhance the simulation experience or augment its capabilities. Click Options![]() |
Options![]() |
Manage custom material libraries. See Material Library Manager for details. |

Inquire![]() |
Use this command to determine the length of a selected line or the length between two vertices. The cumulative length is also reported as you select subsequent lines or vertices. Click Reset to clear the cumulative results and start over. In the Results environment, measurements are made only between nodes. Also, the angle between the segments (first to second node versus second to third node) is given after the third node is selected. |
Inquire![]() |
Reports the maximum and minimum line lengths among all of the visible lines and construction lines. |
Inquire![]() |
Reports the total number of lines (visible and hidden), visible lines, and sketch entities. The sketch entities listed are lines, circles, arcs, points, and splines. |
Inquire![]() |
Reports the angle between three selected vertices using the Between Vertices sub-command. Reports the angle between two selected lines using the Between Lines sub-command. |
Edit![]() |
Click SimStudio Tools to launch Autodesk SimStudio Tools and transfer the CAD parts from your Simulation Mechanical model to it. Use this application to modify or repair your CAD geometry, regardless of the program used to create the original CAD model. Non-CAD parts are not transferred from Simulation Mechanical to SimStudio Tools. After you edit the model, send the updated model from SimStudio Tools back to Simulation Mechanical (ADD-INS
![]() Note: SimStudio Tools saves models in its native *.SimStudio format, not in the original format of the CAD model.
Attention: SimStudio Tools is installed automatically along with Simulation Mechanical. If you choose not to install this application, or later uninstall it, the SimStudio Tools command will not function.

Edit ![]() |
Launch PV/Designer to modify the pressure vessel. This command is available only if PV/Designer created some parts in the current model. See PV/Designer for details. |
Utilities![]() |
Play an animation (.AVI) file. See Animation Player for details. |
Utilities![]() |
Use the Add-ins Manager to control which add-ins are loaded when the user interface is started. Additional options appear in the Add-ins drop-down menu, depending upon the loaded add-ins. By default, Fatigue Wizard and Vault add-ins are installed and activated when Simulation Mechanical is installed. |
Utilities![]() |
Save an image of the full or partial display area to one of several supported image file formats. See the Save Image page for more information. |
Clipboard![]() |
Select an FEA object (load or constraint) and click Copy to copy the object to the clipboard. |
Clipboard![]() |
Select an FEA object (load or constraint) and click Cut to remove the object from the browser and display area and to store it on the clipboard. |
Clipboard![]() |
Select a vertex, edge, surface, or part and click Paste to paste the clipboard object. |
Clipboard![]() |
Select one or more objects and click Delete to delete the selected objects. Note: For many items, you can also press the <Delete> key on your computer keyboard as an alternative to clicking this ribbon command.
|
Delete Results![]() |
Delete the results of a previously run simulation for the currently loaded design scenario. Use this command if you have changed the setup of the model for this design scenario and the previously run results are no longer valid. |
Delete Results![]() |
Delete the results of previously run simulations for all design scenarios within the currently loaded model. Use this command if you have changed the model in any way that makes previously run results invalid for all of the design scenarios. |
