2020.3.1 Update Release Notes

Note: The following sections apply to Flame Family Update 2020.3 and 2020.3.1.

Support for macOS 10.15.1 (Catalina)

Flame Family 2020.3 Update products available on macOS are now certified for macOS 10.15.1.

Support for macOS 10.15.1 comes with the following limitations:

  • Wiretap Central and Backburner Web Monitor do not work on macOS 10.15.1 and cannot be installed. Future versions of macOS are not expected to support Wiretap Central or Backburner Web Monitor.
  • The AutodeskMediaStorage default location changes in macOS 10.15.1. See the following section, Autodesk Media Storage Location Changes, for details.
Important: macOS 10.15.0 (the initial macOS release from October 2019) does not work with Flame Family products.

Autodesk Media Storage Location Changes

macOS 10.15.1 security changes prevent the creation of files and folders at the root of the volume hosting the OS (system volume).

When you install on macOS 10.15.1 and you configure the media storage to use your system volume, the AutodeskMediaStorage is now created in /opt/Autodesk/AutodeskMediaStorage location.

The impact of this change varies according to your setup:

  • A brand new machine already set to macOS 10.15.1. Run the installer as normal.
  • A machine with a clean install of macOS 10.15.1—including erasing the system volume. Run the installer as normal.
  • A machine upgraded to macOS 10.15.1 that has never had a Flame Family product installed. Run the installer as normal.
  • A machine upgraded to macOS 10.15.1 that has had a Flame Family product installed. Follow the instructions in the following section.
Flame Family Product on a Mac Updated to macOS 10.15.1

Your machine was upgraded to macOS 10.15.1 with a Flame Family product already installed. What happens next depends on your storage configuration.

  • Before upgrading to macOS 10.15.1, your media was stored on a secondary volume (non-system volume) or on an external drive or array: you have nothing to do.
  • Before upgrading to macOS 10.15.1 your media was stored at the root of the system volume (/AutodeskMediaStorage). Your media is now stored in /Users/Shared/Relocated Items/Security/AutodeskMediaStorage. If so, you need to do the following:
    1. Relocate the AutodeskStorageMedia to another location.
    2. Edit /opt/Autodesk/sw/cfg/stone+wire.cfg.

In stone+wire.cfg, edit the Path option with the new location of the AutodeskMediaStorage.

Important: If after starting a Flame Family product on macOS 10.15.1 you get the following message at startup: "No volumes configured/mounted on host.", chances are that your product was configured with AutodeskMediaStorage at the root of the system volume. Use the preceding procedure to fix this problem.

Support for CentOS 7.4

The Flame Family 2020.3 Update release supports CentOS 7.4 on all certified platforms listed on the system requirements page.

Note the following:

  • CentOS 7.4 must be installed using the Autodesk custom .iso.
  • CentOS 7.4 is not currently supported for Flame Family 2018.3 Update (and previous versions). We recommend that you install CentOS 7.4 on a different system drive or partition if you need to maintain previous software versions.
  • The CentOS 7.2 to CentOS 7.4 upgrade path is not supported: the Autodesk custom ISO triggers a complete CentOS 7.4 install.

The upgrade to CentOS 7.4 is not mandatory for the 2020.3 Update release. CentOS 7.2 is still a supported operating system for Flame Family version 2020.3, but only for the platforms originally certified with it (HP Z820, HP Z440, and HP Z840).

New DKU (CentOS Only)

Download the DKU from the System Requirements page.

Flame Family 2020.3 Update version requires the installation of DKU version 14.2.0 on all CentOS workstations.

DKU 14.2.0 contains:

  • A new AJA Driver (version 15.2.0.2) along with new firmware versions for Kona 4 and Kona 5 adapters
  • A new version of TeamViewer, version 14.5.5819 (CentOS 7.4 only)

The DKU 14.2.0 installs in /opt/Autodesk/DKU.

For more details regarding installation of the DKU, see Flame 2020 CentOS Setup.

nofstab_storagemedia no longer supported

The --nofstab_storagemedia argument is no longer available to the INSTALL_DKU script. The script now creates the /mnt/StorageMedia entry in /etc/fstab only if there is no such line already present, and then comments it out by default. If you need to mount the LVM volume in /mnt/StorageMedia, uncomment the line from /etc/fstab.

  • If you're upgrading to DKU 14.2.0: No action required, the DKU will preserve your configuration.
  • If you're doing of fresh install of the DKU AND you're using local storage (Dot Hill or any other local storage, as opposed to SAN): Edit /etc/fstab to uncomment the following line:

    #/dev/vg00/lvol1 /mnt/StorageMedia xfs rw,noatime,inode64,nofail

AVIO Configuration Support

AJA and Blackmagic Design are now available on macOS and CentOS.

AJA Support

Flame Family 2020.3 Update supports the AJA 15.2 drivers.

  • CentOS: Installing the DKU 14.2.0 automatically installs the AJA 15.2 drivers.
  • macOS: Download the AJA Software Installer v15.2.5 - Mac from the AJA website.

The 15.2.x drivers are compatible with Flame Family 2019.2 Update, 2020 and 2020.1 Update.

Blackmagic Design Support

On macOS, you can update Blackmagic Design Desktop Video to version 11.4.1.

  • This update is required to use a Blackmagic Design DeckLink and UltraStudio card, you need to update Desktop Video to version 11.4.
  • Download the Desktop Video 11.4.1 macOS package from Blackmagic Design Support Center .
  • Desktop Video 11.4.1 is compatible with previous version of Flame Family on macOS.

You can now use Blackmagic Design cards with Flame, Flame Assist, and Flare on CentOS 7.2 and 7.4.

The following cards have been certified:

  • UltraStudio 4K Extreme (using PCI Express Cable Kit)
  • DeckLink 4K Extreme
Note: Other UltraStudio and DeckLink cards should work but are not certified. Thunderbolt cards are not supported.

For installation instructions, see the Configuration guide.

For supported timings, see Broadcast Monitor Supported Timings.

Backburner Update

Backburner 2020 (Flame Family 2020.3 Update uses Backburner 2020) is automatically installed when you install any Flame Family product. If you're in an environment running Backburner Manager on a dedicated workstation, install Backburner 2020 on that workstation to benefit from the latest fixes.

You can download the Backburner 2020 standalone installer from Autodesk online store. Search for Backburner.

Autodesk Network License Manager Update

Note: This update affects products licensed using multi-user (license server), and no action is required for software licensed using Single User on macOS.

Flame Family 2020.3 Update requires the Autodesk Network License Manager to be updated to the latest version. This Network License Manager version is fully compatible with the Flame Family softwares version 2018 and up.

See the following links for more information:

For details about the license model in Flame Family products, see Products and licenses.

Deprecated Hardware

  • The Avid Artist Series Panels are no longer supported by Flame Family products.
  • NVIDIA Quadro Q6000 cards are no longer supported. Minimal requirements now specify NVIDIA Kepler-series and newer.

Advanced Announcements of Deprecation

The following provides you with a road map regarding software or hardware that cannot be supported in future versions of Flame Family products.

Starting with version 2021 of Flame Family products:

  • Central Install will no longer be supported on macOS. (Note: Central Install will still be available on CentOS.)
  • CentOS 7.2 will no longer be supported.
  • The following hardware components are all at least four years old, and manufacturer warranty and driver compatibility limit our ability to support them: they will no longer be tested or certified.
    • HP Z820
    • Nvidia K6000
    • AJA Kona 3G
