Learn about recent enhancements to Generative Design in Revit.
Generative Design updates are available through the Autodesk desktop app and as part of regular Revit updates. See About Accessing Generative Design.
Custom Selection node: A new Custom Selection node is available in the Input Basic library in Dynamo. The Custom Selection node allows you to create a drop-down selection input with custom labels (Display column) and values. Click the drop-down arrow on the node to access and edit the Display and Value fields. You can remove or add rows using the + and – buttons. If all values are numbers, the output will be a double, and if all values are integers, the output will be an integer. Otherwise, the output will be a string.
Manage file security with trust settings: You now have improved control over security settings for graphs and study types. Folders added through the Manage Folders dialog are marked as trusted locations. Trusted locations on your computer should be used to only store files that don’t contain any unknown or harmful content that might compromise device security. If a folder is removed from the trusted locations list, you won’t be able to run study types or graphs stored in that folder. When attempting to run graphs from a folder added through Manage Folders prior to this update, you'll be prompted to add it to the trusted locations list. Configure trust settings in Dynamo under Preferences Security.
Help content in Define Study: New help content explains the options available in the Generation Settings section for the Optimize and Randomize methods. Generation Settings are advanced options, and default settings will suffice for most studies. To access more information about these settings from the Define Study dialog, you can expand the headers or click the links for more information.
Integrates all 2022 updates: With the 2023 release, all improvements from the 2022 Generative Design updates are integrated into Revit. Generative Design is automatically updated as part of the Revit installation. For a summary of the improvements, see Generative Design (What's New in 2023). For details about specific improvements, see the 2022 edition.
Keyboard navigation: The Generative Design application now supports keyboard navigation.
Method descriptions and thumbnails: The Define Study dialog provides new descriptions and thumbnails in the Method drop-down to help you choose the right method for your study.
Search field in Create Study: The Create Study dialog now includes a search field to help you find a specific study type.
Simplified list view in Create Study: In the Create Study dialog, you can now view study types in simplified list view, which hides the study type thumbnails. The standard detailed view is displayed by default. Toggle between the detailed and simplified views with the icons below the search field.
Cross-Product is now Space Evenly: Based on user feedback, the Cross-Product method has been renamed to Space Evenly. The new name more accurately represents how this method combines every parameter in a study with the other available parameters. There have been no changes to how this method functions.
Workspace Layout sample study type has been removed: The Workspace Layout study type is dependent on a version of Python that no longer ships with Dynamo, so it has been removed from the list of sample study types.
