What's New in 2025 and General Improvements

Important:

For Windows users, 2025 requires an NVIDIA RTX driver v.516.10 or above.

For Linux users, 2025 requires an NVIDIA driver v.515.43.04 or above. Due to Linux dependency for Render Node, set your local directory to /var/opt/Autodesk with write access on the Linux machine that is running the VRED 2025 Render Node.

Installation Changes - A bootstrap file can be downloaded from Accounts after a user has made a selection regarding what and how to install, i.e., Download install or Custom install.

USD Import and Export

We've added support for scene import and export in .usd, .usda, .usdc, and .usdz, which improves your data interoperability and provides a way to better work collaboratively.

Web Shops

We've added Ultraspheres to the Web Shops for accessing extremely high-resolution 360° HDRI's and corresponding backplates. Try 10 free Ultraspheres HDRs in the new HDR section of the VRED Library and use the new List View to change how content is displayed. Find assets and VRED examples easily with the new search. And, for admins, you can now add content and nodes to the library.

Rendering

For rendering, we added support for translucent X-Rite AxF materials with or without surface roughness, made AgX Colorspace our new tonemapper, and improved the Volume Scatter material by adding falloff attributes for controlling the fading out of Volume Scatter materials in X, Y, and/or Z. There are also Python and 4K UHDTV changes.

OpenXR Improvements

We've added better support for Varjo's HMDs in OpenXR, which includes depth testing, foveated rendering, quad views, and MR/VR toggling.

General Improvements

In 2025, find Import Switch Materials for handling Alias switch shaders, surface roughness for subsurface scattering, DLSS for the Streaming app, and area light visualization, and much more. Plus, VRED Design user now have access to some Scenegraph nodes that were previously excluded, annotations, CPU and GPU denoising, Render Layers, ICC color profile, image metadata (including imported rendering metadata), and photonmapping.

VRED Experience

Find many improvements and additions to further enhance your VRED experience, such as Open Examples and List View in the Onboarding and new categories and searchability in the Preferences. See layout alignment improvements in the Preferences, Render Layer module, and UV Editor. For selection, we've added multi-selection highlighting for locked items and single line automatic text edit and selection.
