Use the Shaft Calculation dialog box to assign loads and supports, specify the direction of rotation, select the type of material for the shaft, and to perform calculation on selected parts of a shaft.
Calculated Part Specifies the type of shaft used for the calculation. |
Revolution Dir Specifies the direction the shaft rotates. These options are available only if you are performing the calculation on a rotating shaft. |
Specifies that the shaft rotates in the counter clockwise direction. When this option is selected, a red dot is displayed on the bottom left of the button. |
Specifies that the shaft rotates in the clockwise direction. When this option is selected, a red dot is displayed on the bottom left of the button. |
Select Support Specifies how the shaft is supported. |
Inserts a fixed support at a location along the centerline of the shaft. |
Inserts a movable support at a location along the centerline of the shaft. |
Select Load Specifies details of the loads that are applied to the shaft. |
Applies a torque to the shaft at a location along the axis of the shaft. This option is available only if you are performing the calculation on a rotating shaft. |
Applies a point load at a point on the axis of the shaft. |
Applies a linearly distributed load along a specified section of the shaft. |
Applies a gear load on the shaft at a location you specify. This option is available only if you are performing the calculation on a rotating shaft. |
Material Displays the mechanical properties of the material used to manufacture the shaft. |
Edit Displays the Material Properties dialog box, which allows you to select a material and edit its mechanical properties. |
Copy Creates a copy of an existing support or load and inserts it at a location you specify. |
Edit Temporarily hides the dialog box to enable you to change the position of supports or modify the magnitude and direction of a load. When the dialog box is hidden, if you select a load, the system displays the dialog box corresponding to that load. |
Erase Removes existing supports or loads. |
>>> Hides the dialog box temporarily to enable you to inspect the drawing area. Press ENTER or click anywhere in the drawing area to redisplay the dialog box. |
Calculations Provides access to several shaft calculations. |
Config Displays the Configuration dialog box, which allows you to specify how moment and deformation calculations are performed. |
Moments and Deformations Displays the Select Graph dialog box, which allows you to specify which graphs to create. |
Graph Values Temporarily hides the dialog box to enable you to select a graph and inspect the value of a point on the graph. When you move the mouse over a point on the graph, the value at that point displays in a tooltip. If you click a point on the graph, the value at that point displays in the command window. |
Strength Calculates the strength of the shaft at a point that you specify. |
Update All Recomputes the calculations and updates all graphs and the results block. This button is available only if the graphs and results block are out-of-date. |
