To create a Guided Surface Group

Use a Guided Surface Group to measure surface points at specified locations. Use them when you want to ensure that specific positions are measured, or when you want to measure the same points in each Measure of a document.

Note: Guided Surface Points are available only when creating inspections for CNC and Manual machines.

To create a Guided Surface Group:

  1. Click Form tab > Surfaces panel > Guided. The Inspection Group: Surface Points dialog is displayed.
  2. Edit the group settings, and then click OK to close the dialog and create the group.
  3. Play the group. PowerInspect displays a message asking how you want to create probe points for the group. To create the points by:
    • probing the part, click Yes. PowerInspect switches to full-screen mode and displays the Surface Points on-the-fly dialog so you can select the points by probing. When you have specified the points, right-click the group and select Reset item.
    • specifying their locations, click No. You must then position the points using the Guided Point dialog or the Dynamic Points Editor.
  4. Play the group again. The CAD view switches to full-screen mode and displays the Guided Points dialog. The positions of the points are shown as arrows on the model.
  5. Probe the point indicated by the target.
  6. Repeat step 5 for each point. When you have finished, click to close the dialog.
