About Room Calculation Types

Learn more about room calculation adjustments through calculation types.

In the Calculate Room Quantities dialog, you can create types of calculations to be recalled for future calculations. Click Quantification tab Roombook Extension panel (Calculate Room Quantities) to open the Calculate Room Quantities dialog.

At the top of the dialog, the calculation Family and Type is listed. The default type displays as Standard. You can create, rename, and delete calculation types.

All settings which are made in the Calculate Room Quantities dialog are saved in the currently selected calculation type. Please note however, that project standard calculation settings are not stored in the type.

The following table contains the parameter definitions of the Calculate Room Quantities dialog.
Name Description
Standard
Standard Displays the current project standard.
Selection
Selected Rooms Displays the current number of rooms selected for calculation.
Selected Room Groups Displays the current number of room groups selected for calculation.
Selection Opens the Rooms/room Groups Selection dialog in which you specify which rooms are used to calculate surface area.
Calculation Range
Wall Surfaces Select to consider walls for room calculation. This includes walls, room separation lines, curtain walls, columns (architectural or structural).
Floor Surfaces Select to consider floors for room calculation. Additionally, floor surfaces can be defined with closed contours from the model or detail lines.
Ceiling Surfaces Select to consider for ceilings room calculation. Additionally, ceiling surfaces can be defined with closed contours from the model or detail lines.
Room Circumferences Select to consider for room circumference for room calculation as detected from the room contour. This category can be used for calculating the length of skirting boards. By manually adding/showing further lines, you can calculate the length of cables or similar elements for calculating room quantities.
Furniture Elements Select to consider Revit furniture components placed in the room for room calculation.

Click the ellipses (...) to filter furniture elements by category and include only specified categories in the calculation.

Consider Detail Level Specify which level of detail used to calculate room surface area. Either Medium or Fine.
Computation Height

Specifies a height at which the room interior surface calculates. Either Use 0 for all levels (recommended) or Use values from levels.

Use 0 for all levels ensures all elements are detected in the room.

Use values from levels uses the level height for detecting elements. This should only be iused with caution. This may result in walls not being calculated when they are lower than the level height.

Top Ceiling Factor (%) Expressed as a percentage, it determines whether the ceiling is bounding the room or open based on the relation between floor surface to opening in ceiling surface. This applies to only rare constructive situations. The default setting (50%) can be used unchanged for most cases.
Consider for windows/doors Specifies which dimensions should be used for windows and doors. Either Height/Width or Rough Height/Rough Width. This determines which parameters are considered when viewing calculated room quantities data in the Room Quantities dialog or exporting calculated data.

This information does not influence the area of the window/door because the calculated area is based on the opening size, not the window or door element.

When different families use Height / Width and Rough Height / Rough Width dimensions, Roombook lists the family specific dimensions, ignoring this setting.

Consider materials (when by element is used)

Specifies how to calculate material of room elements. Either All Materials or Finish Materials.

All Materials calculates all materials of the room. Use this option when rooms are not attached to surface material types. If rooms are calculated by element, then all materials of the building part are calculated. This global assumption may not be accurate in all instances.

Finish Materials calculates materials on the surface layer designated as Finish4 or Finish5.

Override Materials of Structural Elements

Specifies how to calculate the material of structural elements in the room.

Use Finish Material of Wall/Floor/Ceiling/Roof to use materials assigned to the surfaces of the room.

Use Structural Material to use materials assigned to the structural element.

Generate Project Data per Material
Generate Project Data per Material Enables Roombook to calculate room area and material data when exporting information for Revit schedules or Design Web Format. When selected, the following surface area and material data can be calculated.
WS - Wall Surfaces (Side Surfaces) Generates wall surface data for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
FS - Floor Surfaces Generates floor surface data for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
CS - Ceiling Surfaces Generates ceiling surface data for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
SL - Side Lengths (Room Circumference) Generates room circumference data for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
FE - Furniture Elements Generates furniture element data for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
RQ - All Room Quantities Generates all room calculation quantities for Revit schedules and Design Web Format.
Export
Export Format Selects the format in which to export the room calculation data. Either MS Excel, CSV, or Design Web Format (DWF/DWFx).
Export Template (Excel export format only). Specifies the excel template file to use when exporting room calculation data. The visible template files are dependent on the project standards.
Include furniture picture (Excel export format only). Includes a picture of calculated furniture elements in the Excel file.
