This document provides a quick overview of Autodesk tools that are designed to make whole building energy analysis more accessible.
Green Building Studio is the cloud-based whole building energy simulation platform that’s integrated with Autodesk’s modeling tools. The following video provides an overview of available workflows.
Energy Analysis Workflows
You can use Green Building Studio to get the results described above and analyze energy use of both conceptual and detailed building information models. The following chart shows the three primary energy simulation workflows from Autodesk tools: Building Elements; Conceptual Masses; and gbXML exports. Each of these are described further in the Getting Started guides here.
Results and Decision-Making
Energy analysis is most useful when you can use the results during the design process to inform and justify optimization decisions. Here’s a quick description of the results you can expect from Green Building Studio
What are the best ways to save energy?
Potential Energy Savings – What are most important aspects to focus on to reduce energy use, and how much improvement can you expect. This is a good tool to spark constructive dialogue between project architects and engineers.
How much money and energy can I save? Can this building get to Net Zero?
Annual Energy Use & Cost Breakdown – How much energy will the building use, from what fuel source, and about how much will it cost you? Cost savings can help justify energy efficiency measures identified in potential energy savings analysis.
