Classifications

A classification, or class, is a data structure used as a properties template for cataloging items. A class is comprised of property fields and may contain other classes or sub-classes. Properties defined in a class are inherited by the sub-classes in that class. A sub-class can include additional property fields along with those inherited from the parent classes. For example, a company may have a top-level class for fasteners. Within that class, there could be sub-classes for metal fasteners, snap fasteners, and adhesives. The fastener parent class contains the general properties that define the broad collection of fasteners. Each sub-class inherits those general properties and adds more details for that specific class. A class can be configured as a phantom. A phantom classification is for organization purposes only and cannot be selected by the user when classifying an item.

A Fusion Manage administrator creates the classification structure and defines the properties that comprise the classes using Classifications Manager. The administrator then adds a classification section to the item details tab. When entering item details, users specify the corresponding class properties to create a catalog of items.

Note: When a workspace includes a classification section, all items in that workspace are classified.
