About Rosettes and Seed Points

While you are setting up a strategy in the Strategy dialog box, you need to select a seed point to use for the strategy. When you do this, the rosette is projected onto the workpiece surface at the seed point and previewed in the TruPlan window. Since the X-axis of the rosette determines the direction in which fibers will be placed, it should not be parallel to the surface normal at the seed point. The red (X) axis indicates what the orientation of your fibers will be. Unfavorable angles are indicated by a shorter projection of the axis.

Acceptable Rosette Projection Inadequate Rosette Projection
  1. Rosette
  2. Rosette projected onto the surface
  3. Rotated rosette with red x-axis nearly aligned with surface normal
  4. Rotated rosette projected onto the surface; the shorter line indicates a risk of reduced stability for fiber placement

If the preview seems to indicate that your rosette angle is not ideal, either try using a different seed point, or rotate your rosette as needed.

Another way to check that your rosette is oriented properly is to select Rosette Check in the Seed section of the Strategy dialog box.

When you do this, areas of the surface that are at risk will be highlighted in red. Set tolerances for this in the Tolerances tab of Document Settings.
