System Requirements

Software

  • Operating System

    • 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 or later
    • MacOS is not supported.
    • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later
  • Display Settings

    • At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) is required. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 are not supported because some controls such as closing the start-up screens display beyond those resolutions.

Prerequisites

  • Uninstall the previously installed Connector.

  • Download and install the Microsoft Power BI Desktop App from the Microsoft official site.

  • Download and install Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI.exe installer package from Autodesk App Store.

  • You must have access to Data Exchanges in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or trial license to access Autodesk Docs projects on ACC.

  • Your Account Administrator must add you to at least one of the projects on ACC.

  • Make sure you have the required permissions to the folder where you perform the following actions:

    • Loading Data Exchange: “View+Download” or higher. For more information, see Folder Permissions.
  • Enable User Account Control (UAC) for non-administrative users

    • Enter administrator credentials when the system specifically requests them, contact your IT team for assistance.
    • In the Windows search bar, search and select Change User Account Control settings.
    • Move the slider to one of the following levels:
      • Notify me only when apps try to make changes to my computer (default)
      • Always notify
    • Select OK to save your changes.
    • Select Yes to confirm the changes.
Important: The Data Exchanges created from the US and EMEA-based hubs are supported.

Install

This topic explains how to install the Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI. Make sure that you read the System Requirements and Prerequisites sections and complete the required actions before installing the Connector.

Important:
  • Make sure you close the Power BI software before installing the Connector.
  • If you have an existing Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI Connector installed, then uninstall it to remove the entry from the Control Panel before proceeding with the installation of the latest version.
  • If you are not an administrator and your computer is managed by your organization, log in with your user account that will be using the Connector and then begin the installation. Enter administrator credentials only when the installer specifically requests them, contact your IT team for assistance.

Third-Party Notice:

If you are authorizing a third-party application to access your Autodesk account, the application you are connecting to is provided by a third party and not provided by Autodesk, Inc. By clicking install, you are allowing the third-party app to access and use your data in accordance with the third party’s legal terms and privacy policy, and you assume all responsibility for such access and use via the third-party application.

  1. Double-click the Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI vX.X.X.exe (for example, Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI v1.5.2.exe) installer package you have downloaded from Autodesk App Store.
  2. If you have an existing Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI installed, the installer will ask you to uninstall the previous version before proceeding with the installation, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstallation before proceeding.
  3. Select I accept the agreement to accept the "License Agreement" and click Next.
  4. Before proceeding with the installation, Installer asks to check UAC settings, if the settings are enabled then click Next.
  5. Click Install to confirm the installation.
  6. You must enter administrator credentials to install the Connector. If you are not an administrator and your computer is managed by your organization, please provide the username and password for an administrator account to proceed. Note: By default, the "Launch Sample Dashboard" box is checked. This will automatically open the Sample Dashboard in Power BI when you finish . If you do not want to open the Sample Dashboard, simply uncheck the box before clicking Finish.
  7. After successful installation, click Finish to exit.

Uninstall

If you are upgrading to the latest version or reinstalling an existing version to avoid any potential problems, you must uninstall the existing version of your Connector.

Note: Make sure you close the Power BI software before uninstalling the Connector.
  1. In the Windows search bar, search and select Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Select Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI from the list of programs.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. A dialog box appears requesting your confirmation, click Yes.
  6. You must enter administrator credentials to uninstall the Connector. If you are not an administrator and your computer is managed by your organization, please provide the username and password for an administrator account to proceed.
  7. After successful uninstallation, click OK.

Update

  1. Uninstall the older version by following the steps from the Uninstall section.
  2. Install the latest version by following the steps from the Install section.
