When I click on the Data Exchange button, the application does not redirect to ACC for authentication. What should I do?

This issue typically occurs when Rhino does not have the necessary administrative permissions to initiate the authentication process. Follow the steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Make sure all instances of Rhino 7 or Rhino 8 are closed.
  2. Right-click on the Rhino software shortcut.
  3. Select Run as Administrator from the context menu.
  4. Launch the connector again.
  5. Click the Data Exchange tab. The application redirects you to ACC for authentication.

Can I use the connector on more than one instance of Rhino simultaneously?

No. Users can open only one instance of the connector.

Does connector support only the English language?

Yes. It currently supports only English.

Why am I unable to see the Autodesk Docs project?

Contact your account administrator and make sure that the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino for Autodesk Docs is enabled. See Install and Update topic for more information. You must also have member access to the project and folders in Autodesk Docs.

Why do I have a connector installation issue?

If you are facing an installation issue, check if an older version of the connector is installed. If so, follow the steps below:

  1. Uninstall the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino
  2. Click Tools in the menu bar.
  3. Select the Toolbar Layout submenu.
  4. Click Restore Defaults.
  5. Reset to default popup will appear. Select OK.
  6. Install the latest version of the connector.

Why does the connector interface become unresponsive when more than one software is open before loading an exchange?

To resolve this issue, minimize all other open softwares and then open the connector interface.

Does Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino only support Geometry and Revit element parameters?

The connector supports only Geometry and Revit element parameters for reading exchanges. It does not support LevelHeads, Anni_Level Head circle, Standard, Center, Room, and their parameters.

Why does my exchange render inconsistently?

While updating an exchange, inconsistency in color and the rendering style is observed sometimes.

Why is the list of target folders not displaying?

When you create an exchange for the first time, you will notice that the Save to panel that displays the list of target folders takes a longer time to synchronize and load the folders from Autodesk Docs.

Is Mesh geometry supported?

Currently, Mesh geometry is not supported.

Can I update a created exchange?

Yes, you can update the exchange from the source file in the producer app,that is, where it is originally created.

Can I update the loaded exchange?

Yes, you must use the producer app to update it and load the latest feature to get the latest exchange in the consumer app. Whereas you cannot update the loaded exchange from the consumer app.

Can I modify the loaded geometries or data?

Loaded geometries must be used only as references in consumer apps. Whereas, you can make some modifications such as moving or changing in color as per available features in the consumer app.

Can I create a door or window on the loaded wall?

No, you cannot create doors or windows on any of the loaded geometries, and they must be used only as references in consumer apps.

Why don’t I see any project in connector’s ‘Load interface’ and ‘Save to Windows?'

You must be a member of at least one ACC project and the project account must have authorization for the specific connector to see the project.

I can see the project, but why don’t I see any folders?

You must have sufficient permissions to see the folders from project files. In this case, you are a member of a project but don’t have sufficient permissions for any folder from the project files to see it. For more information, see Folder Permissions.

I can see projects and folders but why do I get an ‘access denied’ notification while loading an exchange?

To load an exchange, you must have at least “View+Download” or higher permissions for the parent folder of an exchange. In this case, you don’t have sufficient permissions to load an exchange. For more information, see Folder Permissions.

To create an exchange, you must have at least “View+Download+Publish+Upload” or higher permissions for the parent folder of an exchange. In this case, you don’t have sufficient permissions to create an exchange. For more information, see Folder Permissions.

I have created an exchange but why don’t I see the viewable in ACC?

It takes some time to generate the viewable; meanwhile, you can see the "Processing" tag in ACC.

When can I access the parameters and geometries in the exchange?

You can access the parameters and geometries immediately after creating an exchange, irrespective of Viewable generation.

When I add, remove, or rename a project in ACC, why doesn’t the change appear in “Save to window”?

Click the Refresh button to update the local cache of the projects and folders to reflect the latest changes.

Why does Refresh take a lot of time?

Refresh operation requires one minute approximately to update the local cache of the projects and folders to reflect the latest changes.

Is it possible to load the exchange twice in the same file?

No, you cannot load an exchange twice in the same file. The connector interface disables such exchanges in Load interface.

No, you cannot load an exchange in the same file where it is created. The connector interface disables such exchanges in load interface.

If I create an exchange from Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino, then do I need to load it in same connector only and not anywhere else?

If I create and update an exchange up to version V5. Can I load version V3?

No, you can load the latest version only. In this case, version V5 is the latest one.

Where is my Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino installed?

The default installation path for connector is “C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\7.0\Plug-ins\DataExchangeRhinoConnector”

I am facing a problem with Data Exchange Connector. Where can I find the logs to debug the issue?

Click the Help icon present at the bottom of the main Data Exchange Connector window. Select Logs, this will open the explorer containing date-wise log files.

Can I Read or Write Custom Parameters for an exchange in Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino?

Yes, Read and Write of Custom Parameters are supported.

Can I Read and Write Primitive Geometries like points, lines, and curves in Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino?

Read and Write of only Points and Lines are supported.

Why is the 'Create exchange' button disabled when I am trying to create an exchange in Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino?

Key in the four mandatory fields- Name, 3D Elements, and Layer/Group. This will enable the 'Create exchange' button.

Why am I unable to see the geometry of an exchange after loading it in the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino?

The following could be the reason you are unable to see the geometry:

  • Geometry could be small and cannot be seen with the current zoom setting.
  • Geometry may be placed out of the current view. Use Rhino’s Zoom Extends command to gather the whole geometry in the view.

When the Data Exchange Conector window is behind the Rhino software or is minimized, why am I unable to see it when I try to click and access it again?

Access the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino from the Taskbar by clicking the Rhino icon.

I get an error while entering an exchange name with some special characters.

Special characters, such as < >: " /\ |? * ` are not allowed in the exchange name.

What is the length supported for the exchange name?

A length (not the byte size) of 255 characters is supported.

In Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino, how do I achieve data granularity while creating an Exchange?

While creating a Data Exchange add more filters to your exchange by selecting the ‘Layer’ or ‘Group’ under the “Filter by” drop-down.

In Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Rhino, I created an exchange based on a selection. I made more changes and tried to update an exchange. Why am I getting a notification “Document has no modified changes" even though I have objects in the selection?

As of now we cannot add or remove elements while updating the exchange which was created using Filter by 'Selection' mode.

Yes, you can create an exchange by selecting elements of a model.

Are the exchanges bidirectional?

Exchanges are uni-directional today. Once you create an exchange, that exchange can only be edited/updated from where it was authored. To send data “back”, you need to create a new exchange. We intend to expand toward more bidirectional exchange authoring/editing in the future.

Take the example of an exchange created in Revit and brought into Rhino. Updating or editing the same exchange in Rhino and sending it back through the same exchange is not yet supported. You must create a new exchange from Rhino today.

Is there a way to distinguish between the elements that are coming from the exchange and which are native elements

Yes, you can achieve this by using the Select Elements option available for the exchange. Select your exchange from connector interface, click more menu, and then click Select Elements from the drop-down list.
