To view material quantities
Calculate quantities of materials associated with a selected component road, a specified length of a selected road (a station range) or for multiple selected roads. Calculate material quantities within a selected Area of Interest.
InfraWorks computes the quantities for contract items needed to construct a roadway project. For a component road or roads, use the Material Quantities tool in the Analysis Hub to view material quantities. You can also export the quantities to a standard CSV file and import the data to a spreadsheet application for additional reporting and analysis.
To set a station range, select one component road and turn on the station range field, then type the numbers of the range.

The materials associated with the selected road(s) that can be quantified include:
- Road components (total length and area)
- Note: Road components of intersections and roundabouts are not included.
- Bridge materials (concrete and steel)
- Utilities (drainage components, generic pipe)
- Parametric models (city furniture, decorations, custom catalog assets)
- 3D models (counts). Note:
- Road decorations (3D models) associated with intersections or roundabouts in the road are not included in the counts.
- Quantities associated with road decorations that have an asterisk * next to them are approximated and the actual values may vary. The individual objects cannot be counted, but are calculated based on the decoration parameters. See more detail in the following table.
| For objects... | the count... |
|---|---|
| spaced along an alignment | is calculated based on the alignment length which is derived from a 2D plan view of the alignment, rather than a 3D view. |
| at the beginning and end of an alignment | may vary from the actual number of placed objects, due to a difference in how placement and calculation handles a remainder in spacing. |
| placed before the start of the alignment and after the end of the alignment | does not include these objects. The calculation only accounts for objects within the roadway and the grading area at the sides of the road. |
- Select a component road, multiple component roads, or an Area of Interest in the model. For more information about selecting multiple roads, see To select features in the model. The Material Quantities icon displays in the Analysis Hub below the Stack.
- Click the Material Quantities icon to display more tools, and click the Show Road Quantities icon to calculate the quantities of the materials for the selected road. The Material Quantities panel displays. Quantities are calculated for road components, such as the shoulder and lane, bridge materials, drainage components, and for 3D or parametric models, like city furniture, road decorations, and railway. Note: If you have already set a station range for a single selected road and left the Station Range setting turned on, the calculations will show the values for the specified range only. See the next, optional step.
- Specify station range: When selecting a single road, you can set a station range and re-calculate the material quantities for the specified length of road only. Note: The Station Range option is disabled if you select multiple roads. In the Materials Quantities panel, turn on the Station Range setting. Click in the Station Range values fields (no-longer grayed-out) and enter the values you want. Press Enter. The values shown in the panel now reflect only the materials for the specified station range. An image displays next to the tool in the Analysis Hub to indicate that Station Range is currently turned on and the selected area of the road is highlighted in canvas. Turn off Station Range to see the material quantities values for the entire road.
- Reset depth range values: For drainage pipes, inlets, and manholes, quantities are calculated in given depth ranges. Follow these steps to customize the default depth range values: Click Settings Set Depth Ranges. On the Depth Range Settings dialog, enter the higher value for Depth Range 1, Depth Range 2, and Depth Range 3. Depth Range 4 is automatically adjusted based on the Depth Range 3 value. Click OK.
- Customize the quantities panel: On the Material Quantities panel, click the arrows to expand or collapse categories for better viewing, as needed. To return to the original layout display, click Settings Reset Layout.
- Save quantities data to a CSV file: In the Material Quantities dialog, click Generate Report. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file, and click Save.
Reset Unit Configuration Settings, As Needed
Click Unit Configuration in the Application Options panel, and modify the unit type and precision for the Basic Units, such as Length and Area, if required for your project. Road and POI component data is calculated and reported according to the units you specify.
