Connect Fittings reference

Selects geometry on free and base fittings to connect and specifies the engagement information. You can connect a single component or build groups of multiple adjacent fittings.

Access:

With a pipe run active, click Pipe Run tab Route panel Connect Fittings .

Connect fitting

Connects the selected component to other components in the active run. Selected fittings must have a collinear connection.

Free Fitting selects a fitting, conduit part, free route end, or normal Inventor part in the active run.

Base Fitting selects a fitting, conduit part, free route end, or normal Inventor part that constrains position and controls engagement of the free fitting, as well as the auto route region if the free fitting is a free route end.

Engagement click the arrow to select the engagement type when you have specified both free fitting and base fitting for the connection. Available engagement types include:

  • Free Fitting: Uses the free fitting engagement type for the selected connection.
  • Base Fitting: Uses the base fitting engagement type for the selected connection.
  • User Defined: Determines your own engagement by entering a specific distance value.
Note: If neither part involved in the connection is a fitting, only User Defined is available with a default engagement distance of 0.

Distance available only when you select User Defined from the Engagement list. Enters a custom engagement distance:

  • A positive number moves the free fitting or component toward from the connected base fitting or component.
  • A negative number moves the free fitting or component away from the connected base fitting or component.

Insert fitting

Inserts a fitting between other adjacent fittings that are collinear. Valid fitting groups include groups created by population and groups of adjacent loose fittings.

Free Fitting selects a fitting to insert in the active run. The inserted fitting must have at least 2 connections that are collinear such as tees, crosses, and most valves. Elbows and plugs are not valid for insertion.

Note: You can insert a fitting between elbows and couplings placed in an auto route region.

Base Fittings selects 2 connected fittings. The first fitting selected is the fitting that constrains position and controls engagement of the free fitting to insert. It also controls position for all fittings in the group.

Specified Connection

Engagement click the arrow to select the engagement type when you have specified both the free fitting and the first base fitting. Available engagement types include:

  • Free Fitting: Uses the free fitting engagement type for the selected connection.
  • Base Fitting: Uses the base fitting engagement type for the selected connection. Two fitting occurrences are listed, and the engagement of the selected fitting is used.
  • User Defined: Determines your own engagement by entering a specific distance value.

Distance available only when you select User Defined from the Engagement list. Enter a custom engagement distance:

  • A positive number moves the free fitting or component toward the connected base fitting or component.
  • A negative number moves the free fitting or component away from the connected base fitting or component.

Opposite Connection

Engagement click the arrow to select the engagement type at the side of the free fitting that is opposite the first base fitting selected in the base fittings group. Available engagement types include:

  • Free Fitting: Uses the free fitting engagement type for the selected connection.
  • Base Fitting: Uses the base fitting engagement type for the selected connection.
  • User Defined: Determines your own engagement by entering a specific distance value.

Distance available only when you select User Defined from the Engagement list. Enter a custom engagement distance:

  • A positive number moves the free fitting or component toward the connected base fitting or component.
  • A negative number moves the free fitting or component away from the connected base fitting or component.
