Quickstart Warp tutorial: Review deflection results

In this task, you interpret deflection results to determine how much the part has warped. To make the interpretation easier, one of the parts is isolated into a new layer so only one part is investigated.

  1. Display only the MouseCover Triangles layer layer.

  2. Create a new layer called 1 Part.

    1. Right-click on the Mesh Elements folder in the layers panel, and click New Layer.

    2. Enter the name 1 Part and press Enter.

    3. Band select around one part.

    4. Right-click on the 1 Part layer and select Assign.

    5. Right-click on the 1 Part layer and select Hide All Other Layers.

  3. Click the View Cube on the corner between the Front, Left and Bottom faces View Cube to rotate the part to -45 35 30.

  4. Zoom up on the part.

  5. Select the Deflection, all effects:Deflection result in the study tasks list.

    The variations in results from cavity to cavity for fill time, pressure, temperature, and volumetric shrinkage will cause small differences in deflection between the parts. Your deflections will be slightly different than the examples in this tutorial, but close enough to determine if there are any problems.

  6. Click Plot properties (Results tab > Properties panel > Plot Properties).

  7. Click the Deflection tab.

  8. Enter 5 for the Scale Factor Value and uncheck the X and Z directions to display the Y direction only.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Rotate the part so you can see the slits from the core side.

Deflection on the slits

The deflection of the part is scaled to be 5 times greater than actual. This is done to see the deflection on the part easier. It appears that the center slit is OK but the outer two overlap. In reality, there is no overlap as that is not possible. What it does say is that the outside corners of the mouse deflect more than the center, causing the narrowing of the slit. This warpage should be improved.

In the next task we will investigate the possible reasons for this deflection.
