Entering anisotropic matrix material properties
The Mori-Tanaka micro-mechanics model allows you to use anisotropic matrix material properties of fiber-filled materials.
Search for the material you want to edit in the material database, and view the details of that material.
This material may be in the default database or a personal database.
The Thermoplastics material dialog is displayed.
Select the Mechanical Properties tab.
From the Matrix properties drop-down list, select Use 7 matrix properties.
Click Edit matrix properties to display the Matrix properties dialog.
Enter the anisotropic matrix properties.
- Elastic modulus, 1st principal direction (E1)-the elastic modulus in the flow direction
- Elastic modulus, 2nd principal direction (E2)-the elastic modulus in the transverse direction
- Poissons ratio (v12)-Poisson ratio between flow and transverse directions
- Poissons ratio (v23)-Poisson ratio between two transverse directions
- Poissons ratio (G12)-shear modulus
- Alpha1-thermal expansion coefficient in the flow direction
- Alpha2-thermal expansion coefficient in the transverse direction
Click OK to save the matrix properties and return to the Mechanical properties tab.
Click OK to close the Thermoplastics material dialog.
The material with anisotropic matrix material properties can now be used with the Mori-Tanaka micro-mechanics model.
