Mechanical Properties dialog
This dialog contains two models that will account for variation in properties in the flow direction and transverse to the direction of flow of the selected material.
Generic mechanical data
If you select this option, the recomended data values associated with the Family Abbreviation and Filler information that you specified in the General Information dialog will be used.
Input raw data
Selecting this option allows you to enter information for this material record.
Mechanical properties data
These inputs are used to specify the mechanical properties of the material. The five independent mechanical constants required to characterize a transversely isotropic elastic material are:
- Elastic modulus, 1st principle direction (E1)
- Elastic modulus, 2nd principle direction (E2)
- Poissons ratio (v12)
- Poissons ratio (v23)
- Shear modulus (G12)
Transversely Isotropic Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) Data
These inputs are used to specify the thermal expansion properties of the material (matrix + fibers/filler in the case of composite material). The Transversely Isotropic CTE coefficients combine with the Mechanical Data model to account for variation in properties in the flow direction and transverse to the direction of flow.
Following are the Transversely Isotropic CTE coefficients:
- Alpha 1, the thermal expansion coefficient in the flow direction
- Alpha 2, the thermal expansion coefficient in the transverse direction
Mechanical Data Test Information
This section of the dialog contains information about the material such as source, method and date of creation.
