Change Lifecycle State

You can select a lifecycle state and apply it to the file or a group of files currently opened in Navisworks. This feature applies to the Autodesk Vault Professional edition.

The Change State command allows you to modify the lifecycle state for a file or a group of files currently opened in Navisworks. This command only works for vaulted files that are checked in. Also you cannot change the lifecycle state for an out-of-date file.

Changing the lifecycle state of a file enforces certain lifecycle behaviors configured by the Autodesk Vault administrator in the Autodesk Vault client. Examples of states include Work in Progress, Quick Change, and Obsolete. For more information on lifecycle states, see the Autodesk Vault client help.

Understanding Lifecycles

Lifecycles refer to the process a company uses to track its products from inception through retirement. As a product is conceived, defined, designed, tested, revised, and produced, it goes through various states that are often quite specific to a particular company. However unique the individual states of a lifecycle, the concept of lifecycle management is practiced by most companies in some form.

Autodesk Vault provides lifecycle management by applying a uniform set of behaviors to files assigned a lifecycle. Each lifecycle contains states determined by the Administrator. These states can be assigned behaviors that trigger when a certain event occurs. Administrators can customize lifecycle names, state names, events that transpire when a state changes, and other aspects of lifecycle management to best fit their company's needs.
