Create Views with Associated NWF files

Combine models opened from Model Coordination into a view, an aggregated combination of models that can be useful for model review, clash detection, and issue resolution on a subset of related data.

  1. Click the Coordination tab > Coordination panel > Open.

  2. Select the account, project, and coordination space you want to open models from.

  3. Click the Models tab, select the models you want to create a view from, and click Open.

  4. When the models have loaded, click Save in the Quick Access toolbar to open the Save view dialog box.

  5. Enter a title and description for the view, and select a privacy status.

Tip: There are two privacy statuses for views. Public views are viewable by all project members in the coordination space. Private views are only viewable by the creator and project administrators.
  6. Click Save view.

The view is saved to the Model Coordination project. An associated, hidden NWF file is also saved, that contains all the Navisworks-specific data such as model appearance settings, search sets, viewpoints, Clash Detective data and so on.

  7. In your next Navisworks session, follow steps 1 and 2 above, select the Views tab, and select and open your view.

The NWF file is also opened, loading any Navisworks-specific data.

  8. Make edits in Navisworks as required, for example create a viewpoint. Click Save to save the changes to the NWF file.

If another project member opens the view and makes edits in Navisworks, they are prompted that a newer version of the NWF file exists and asked if they want to merge the data. When they click Yes, the other member is notified and can review the changes before saving again.

    Warning:

If Clash Detective data is saved in an NWF file associated with a view, and a member opens the view and makes changes in Navisworks Simulate, saving those changes will cause the clash data to be lost. They will be notified of this before they save. Once saved, it is not possible to revert to a previous version of the NWF file.

These views can also be opened in Model Coordination, but the Navisworks-specific data from the NWF file is not loaded. You can use and update the view as normal in Model Coordination, and any changes made are reflected in Navisworks.
