E5004-STIFFNESS MATRIX SINGULAR OR NON-POSITIVE DEFINITE

Error & Warning Description Cause Action
E5004 STIFFNESS MATRIX SINGULAR OR NON-POSITIVE DEFINITE
  • In a static stress analysis, the model is not statically stable, because either a constraint or contact is missing.
  • In a thermal analysis, contact is missing that bonds the parts together.
  • The Mesh is distorted, either because it is too large or because the CAD geometry leads to distorted elements.
  • The parts have interference, and the contact distorts the mesh when the analysis removes the interference.
  • The material properties are wrong or have a wide range in stiffness between parts.
  • Check that the appropriate parts are constrained.
  • Increase the contact tolerance or model the components differently.
  • Check for small features that are causing the elements to distort and consider suppressing those features or modelling them differently.
  • Use the “Inspect > Analyze Interferences” to detect and remove interferences.
  • Check the material properties to confirm they are realistic.

Cause 2: Your model is missing a constraint or a contact, causing it to be statically unstable.
