Smoothing for offsetting meshes

You can use the Smoothing optionon the Offset toolbar when you are offsetting one or more meshes:

The boundary smoothing factor recalculates and moves the points of the mesh boundary when it is being offset. This reduces the number of jagged edges and creates a boundary with smooth edges:

Smoothing = 0

Smoothing = 2

Enter a numerical value into the Smoothing box to define how the mesh boundary is smoothed. The magnitude of the smoothing is determined by the following:

  • 0 — no smoothing, the mesh boundary is unchanged (default).
  • Low values — the mesh boundary keeps most detail, but it retains some jagged edges.
  • High values —the mesh boundary loses most detail, but it becomes much smoother.
    Note: The Smoothing function only accepts values greater than or equal to 0.
