Create and Edit Embodied Carbon Definitions

Assign Embodied Carbon definitions to materials in your model.

Note: The databases for embodied carbon and the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) are provided by a third party, and as further set out in Autodesk's Terms of Use. The list of default Embodied Carbon definitions provided is a collection of generic product category data, based on average values sourced from the Building Transparency database, studies, manufacturer data and custom calculated EC definitions. It is encouraged that you explore data sets that are relevant to your region or country. It is recommended that you adjust the level of precision in the Embodied Carbon data you use, to the project stage and the level of detail in your model.

EC definition Name: Embodied Carbon definitions can be a specific product from a manufacturer, a type of product, or an aggregation of multiple products.

Notes: Use Notes to convey assumptions made for the respective Embodied Carbon definition.

Source: Use the source column to organize your data in the list. User-defined Embodied Carbon definitions can display web links.

Labels: Labels are used as containers of data that help you better organize and categorize your EC definitions.

Note: The materials in your model need an Embodied Carbon Coefficient to be assigned in order to get to an Embodied Carbon Result. The list of Embodied Carbon definitions are available per user and it is shared across insights models.

ECDefinitions

To create and edit a definition

  1. In the construction summary, expand the Embodied Carbon definition value to display the search window.
  2. Click Advanced Search.
  3. From the top of the Advanced Search Window, click Add Definition.
  4. Inspect the results and the embodied carbon definition, assign an embodied carbon coefficient, and assign labels to the definition.
  5. Click Add.
  6. To edit a definition, click Edit from Embodied Carbon definitions list.
