The following zone equipment types directly serve a space or zone.

  • Active Chilled Beam
    An active chilled beam consists of a heat exchanger and an integral air supply. It is normally suspended from a ceiling.
  • Constant Air Volume Box
    The constant air volume (CAV) box is an air terminal without turndown on an air system. It typically contains a reheat coil, but this is optional.

    Fan coils provide conditioned air to an area by recirculating air through the coils. A four-pipe fan coil unit consists of a fan, air filter, chilled water cooling coil, and hot water heating coil.

  • Packaged Terminal Heat Pump
    A packaged terminal heat pump (PTHP) consists of a separate, un-encased refrigeration system installed in a cabinet of similar function and configuration to that of a packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC). It uses reverse cycle refrigeration as its prime heat source.
  • Parallel Fan Powered Box
    A parallel fan powered box has a fan that runs only during the heating mode to pull warm return air from the ceiling plenum.
  • Passive Chilled Beam
    A passive chilled beam is normally suspended from a ceiling and consists of a heat exchanger in a housing, but does not contains an integral air supply like an active chilled beam.
  • Radiant Panel
    A radiant panel supplies heat directly to the floor or to panels in the wall or ceiling.
  • Series Fan Powered Box
    A series fan powered box has a fan that must run throughout the occupied mode in order to deliver ventilation air to the zone.
  • Unit Heater
    Unit heaters are designed for use in space heating applications.
  • Unit Ventilator
    Unit ventilators provide a controlled means of introducing conditioned outdoor air during the heating season.
  • Variable Air Volume Box
    The variable air volume (VAV) box is an air terminal with turndown on an air system. As an option, it may contain a reheat coil.
  • Variable Refrigerant Flow Fan Coil
    Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems vary the flow of refrigerant to indoor units based on demand.
  • Water Source Heat Pump
    A water source heat pump operates like a traditional air source heat pump, but it extracts and dissipates heat by way of water instead of air.
