About Placing Keynotes in Linked Models

Place keynotes on elements in a linked model.

For detailed information on placing keynotes, see Placing a Keynote.

Guidelines for placing keynotes in linked models

  • The path and file name for the keynote file must be the same in the current and linked file.

Revit compares the paths to the keynote files referenced in the current and linked files; it does not compare the keynote tables. If the paths to the keynote files are different, Revit assumes that the keynote tables do not match and displays an error message.

  • When placing an Element or Material keynote on an element in a linked model, the assigned keynote value from the element in the linked model is displayed.

If a keynote value is not assigned to the element, a blank keynote is displayed. To edit the keynote value, use the Open (and Unload) command to open the linked file and assign a keynote value to the element.

  • All keynote tags defined in the current file are included in keynote legends even if the keynote is placed on an element in the linked model. The linked model must be loaded for the keynotes to be included in the a legend.
  • Keynote tags placed directly in the linked file do not display in the keynote legend for the current file.
