When you add an IPT file to Inventor Nesting, you can adjust properties, including thickness, extrusion direction, and which sketch to use. Generally you would follow these steps after adding the file to your nest, but you could do them before as well. (See About Source Files.)
- In the Inventor model browser, right-click the appropriate node and select
Nest Authoring.
The Nest Authoring dialog box opens.
- If you have not previously applied the Use For Nesting property to this file, you can modify the thickness properties in this dialog box; Calculate Thickness Automatically is available for extrusions, generic CAD, and sheet metal.
- Leave Calculate Thickness Automatically selected to use the thickness property already applied to the file, or;
- Deselect Calculate Thickness Automatically and enter a value in the Nesting Thickness box.
- Set the provider for the file.
This cannot be changed in the Sources dialog box later, but you can re-open this dialog box to select a different provider if necessary.
- Use the Feature Used For Nesting selection arrow to change which sketch or extrusion to use for nesting.
- Click Extrusion Direction to flip the extrusion direction. (Not available for sheet metal.)
- Enable Preview Nestable Shape to see the shape and extrusion direction in Inventor Nesting.
- Save your file.
