To Create and Use an Inventor Nesting Template

Create an Inventor Nesting template with the materials and packaging that you use regularly, so you do not have to recreate them each time you work on a new part. A good practice is to name the template after the cutting machine you intend to use.

Create a Template from an Existing Template

  1. In Inventor, click File > New to open the Create New File dialog box.
  2. Under Nesting - Create a nest, select an .inest file and click Create.

The default template installed with Inventor Nesting is named Standard.inest.

  3. Define materials and packaging as you normally would.
  4. Click File > Save As > Save Copy As Template.
  5. Give the file an identifiable name and click Save.

Create a Template from an Existing Nest Document

  1. In Inventor, open a working INEST file.
  2. Delete all nest studies and geometry sources from the INEST file. (In the Nesting browser, right-click and delete.)

This leaves just the materials and packaging information in the file.

  3. Click File > Save As > Save Copy As Template.
  4. Give the file an identifiable name and click Save.

Open a Template

  1. In Inventor, click File > New.
  2. Under Nesting - Create a nest, select the INEST template you want to use and click Create.
  3. Go to the Inventor Nesting tab.
  4. If necessary, click Inventor Nesting to enter the Inventor Nesting environment.
  5. On the TruNest ribbon, click Process Material Library and Packaging, respectively, to check that your defined materials and packages are listed.
