Manage automation preferences
Manage the Automation Preferences before generating a drawing in Fusion. Choose whether to create automated drawings with or without templates, and save your customized preferences as a new template for future use.
Manage automation preferences
Click the Workspace menu and select Drawing > From Design.
The Create Drawing dialog displays.
In the Create Drawing dialog, for the Drawing Type, select Automatic.
For the Base Document, select one of the following:
- From scratch
- Template
Click Automation Preferences.

The Automation Preferences dialog displays.
In the Automation Preferences dialog, choose the preference scope which will determine which design entities receive sheets and automation behavior:
- Main Assembly
- Sub-Assembly
- Animation
- Component
- Folded Model
- Flat Pattern
Under Create Sheet, choose a sheet type and related options.
- Sheet with Single Iso View (optional Parts List and location)
- Sheet with Orthogonal Views (optional Parts List and location)
- Folded Model options (optional Iso View, Bend Table, and location)
- Flat Pattern sheet (if needed)
Set Dimensions.
- Turn on Auto Dimensions as needed
- Choose a Dimension Strategy
- Choose Hole Preferences
Set Drawing View defaults.
- Style, Tangent Edges, Interference/Thread Edges, Bend Extends
- Center Marks and Center Lines
Exclude components as needed.
- Add names to Omit Component…
- Enable Detect and Omit Fasteners
Save the changes in one of the following ways:
- If you selected From scratch as a Base Document, click Save as New Drawing Template to create a new template with these preferences for future drawings.
- If you selected Template as a Base Document, click Update Selected Template to save these preferences to the selected template for future drawings.
- Click OK to apply these preferences for this drawing creation only.
Alternative method
Open an existing drawing template.
In the Template contextual environment, on the toolbar, select Automation Preferences
.The Automation Preferences dialog displays.
Continue with the step 5 in the Manage automation preferences section above.
